To start exploring the organs and moving with them, the first step is to identify the keystone of where the organ is in the body. One needs to identify the organ and sense what it feels like in relation to the body. Cohen gives various examples in this video. Cohen states, “The keystone manifests the greatest tone of that posture.” One is able to expand one side and condense the other side of the body. This provides the individual with options.
One can breathe into one’s heart: The body’s energy is channeled into the heart and into the centre of the body
One can breathe from one heart: uplifting sensation in the body. These two approaches change the sensation in the body.
According to Cohen, organ helps to create the form of the posture. For example, if the pancreas rotates, Cohen twists her body to where her pancreas is. The individual can do something in the body that call forth that organ, or be in that organ and explore how does this manifest in the body and affects one’ form, posture and movement quality.
Application of dance
This exercise allows the dancer to engage the body particularly the organs to improvise, to listen and explore where the movement can go in the body. The dancer can develop a greater sense of awareness of the organs in the body and find one’s true posture. The dance can analyze and explore how does one organ manifest and affect his or her posture, form and movement quality. It provides avenues of options for creative exploration, warming the body, expanding and making small areas in the body.
