This video is a good brief introduction to the Feldenkrais Method. He emphasized the positions used in Feldenkrais such on laying the ground, reducing the amount of gravity on the body. It encourages the hip to open up, and the exercises help to facilitates actions like walking and running. The Feldenkrais Method coordinates the upper back with the lower body together, encouraging integration. The approach allows one to experience how it feels like on the inside and how to execute the movement easier. It restores their ability to move and return to natural movement habits. The student comes away understanding the amount of effort needed to execute the movement efficiently. The Feldenkrais Method improves mobility of the movement and helps to ease tension and strain on joints.
The video demonstrates a shoulder and forearm joint manipulation using Functional Integration of the Feldenkrais Method. The practitioner, Krauss observes how the student moves her arm and her tenancy to that the arm into a particular position. The practitioner applies pressure and encourages movement in the student’s shoulder blades. The student can sense in movement in the scapula while the practitioner lifts the bend shoulder and apply a little pressure in the shoulder socket. This creates a more receptive shoulder to movement in any direction. There are more movement and space to move the shoulder joint. Krauss brings the student’s arm over the chest, gently pulling to see how the student reacts to the movement. As the arm is brought over the chest, the student’s head rolls to the side in response to the movement. Krauss would need to use more effort if the student should experience the maximum range of turning to the side of the head. There is a much larger movement when the head moves on its axis. The chest becomes available to turn more to the side. The movement would appear stuck if the student turns her head and turns on her centre. The movement becomes more organized and coordinated, as the student is more aware of the shift of her body weight while moving.
